Hundreds Of Tourist Photos In One

Hundreds Of Tourist Photos In One

Every day millions of tourists visit the same attractions and take photos of the same monuments, buildings and landmarks. How about taking those photos and melt them all together in one.

Switzerland-based Corinne Vionnet has come up with the great idea to literally blend together hundreds and hundreds of tourist photos of for example the Stonehenge, the Pyramids, or the Taj Mahal and blend it into one. The result you’ll be getting is a blurry photo with the silhouette of the landmarks or the monuments. It almost looks like an acrylic painting which obviously is the effect she wanted to get. Voinnet wonders why we always take the same photo, but she shortly answers with: “The photograph proves our presence. And to be true, the picture will be perfectly consistent with the pictures in our collective memory.” Each photo consists of 200-300 different tourist photos of the same object.

The blurry effect gets more awesome with all the moving people that can remind of ghosts or a vague memory of all the tourists that were present when the hundreds of pictures were taken. This “picture-in-picture effect” has been used by another creative soul that has photographed the Moscow Metro by holding up postcards in front of the stations while trigging the camera.

In my opinion, these photos accurately reflects an image that we see in our mental eye when we think back to a place we have visited. After all a thought about a place we have been is just a million images that we’ve seen superimposed right?

Ephemeral individual perceptions melding into an single artistic, almost-tangible reality… something to peer into and get lost in.
