Facebook Default Avatar Becomes Alive

Facebook Default Avatar Becomes Alive

People that wanted to be private and anonymous on Facebook by hiding safely behind the blue default avatar should watch out; these defaults have suddenly become personalized.

The young artist Thomas M. from Paris, also known as TWO, thought that the blue Facebook default avatars were boring and I guess annoying as well. Why do people have a Facebook profile in the first place when they are not even going to use their own profile picture? Maybe they feel safe and protected that way, but for us other users it’s just a boring sight. Thomas used live models for his avatars and painted their faces white. He also used the very-known pale blue background for the shoot.

The models are all posing with their eyes closed, trying to be as alike as the Facebook default avatar, but at the same time bring life and personality to it, just like this other artist did to the South Park cartoon characters. And to bring more life to the default images was exactly what Thomas wanted; to “humanize the avatar at the first login”. The models for this project should definitely use their personalized avatar photo as profile picture on Facebook; that would be awesome.
