Edible Landscapes

Talk about having food on your mind. Everything in these pictures are real food even if they look completely fake.

Photographer Carl Werner has a thing for photographing food landscapes, or “foodscapes” as you may call it. The hills are baked potatoes, the cactus are cucumbers, the sea is cabbage and salad, and you can go on forever, because his ideas are many. Werner is spending a lot of time at supermarkets trying to find the best food to make these food art. Then he goes to his studio and spends a couple of days building the landscape of food, so he finally can start to shoot. But the shooting process must happen in a couple of hours because the food is always starting to fall apart under the bright and warm lights.

After capturing the right photos he fixes them with special effects on the computer so they look like paintings. It is incredible how he makes them look like landscape photos, when in reality every stone or tree or whatever are some kind of food. Another example on taking photos of food under pressure happened under the photo-shoot of “Hunger Pains” where models wore their favorite food.
