When Maps Become Alive

Yes, it’s true that these art pieces look like paintings and drawings of people from far away, but in reality they are collages made of ordinary maps.
“Map Works” is a unique project by talented Texas artist Matthew Cusick. He takes a printed map and reconfigures it completely with ink so it looks like portraits of people or just random items like cars and bridges or highways. Matthew had his first exhibition two years after graduating, and from then his works have been world spread. His main inspiration is typography, and he sees the beauty in printed maps. It is strange how something so natural to us can be transformed into something completely different. That has also been done by another artist that took normal food and created amazing and realistic landscapes out of it.
